The First European Sakya Monlam (Buddhist Prayer Event)

A monlam is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist prayer event where attendees gather together to recite special aspiration prayers for the benefit of beings.

This is the first traditional monlam to take place in Europe within the Sakya school, one of the four main traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. The monlam will involve recitation of prayers in Tibetan and will also feature a special traditional long life prayer ceremony praying for the long life of Vajradhara His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche, the 41st Sakya Trizin.

A free book will be available containing all the Tibetan prayers to be recited, with full English translations alongside.

The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome to join (whether or not Buddhist). However, in order to receive the initiation (which takes place on the afternoon of Sunday 11 August), you must have taken refuge (i.e. made a formal commitment to the Buddhist path).

Friday, 9 August 2019

09:00–12:00 His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche will open the First European Sakya Monlam for Universal Peace and Love and all assembled will begin recitation the monlam Prayers. His Holiness will will give an explanation of the meaning and benefit of monlam aspiration prayers.

12:00–14:00: Lunch break (lunch available on site, to be paid for separately)
14:00– 17:00: Recitation of monlam prayers

09:00–12:00: Tenshug (mandala offering for long life of His Holiness Gongma Trichen Rinpoche) and recitation of monlam prayers 
12:00–14:00: Lunch break (lunch available on site, to be paid for separately)
14:00– 17:00: Recitation of monlam prayers

14:00: A long life initiation to be given by His Holiness Gongma Trichen Rinpoche
17:30: Vajrakilaya Blessing to be given by His Holiness Gongma Trichen Rinpoche followed by an evening event organised by Tsechen Belgium Association featuring Tibetan cultural show and concluding dinner (dinner to be paid for separately)

Organised by the European Sakya Monlam Foundation (registered in Belgium at Gasstraat 24 2060 Antwerpen Belgium) with kind support from the Great Sakya Monlam Foundation in India and from Sakya centres and groups around the world and individual donors.
